With over 30 years experience, Chiselwood have worked hard to stand out from the crowd. To make a difference in designing and manufacturing beautiful furniture.

Living in Wiltshire in the early 80’s, Mel and Martin Holliday, founders of Chiselwood, were inspired by designers; Mark Wilkinson and Charlie Smallbone. In 1987 they moved back to Lincolnshire. They dreamt of setting up a bespoke furniture company, unlike any other in the area.

Martin used his engineering knowledge and newfound love of design to create the company. And began to designing and making furniture by hand, in a small workshop in the centre of Lincoln. However as years progressed a team grew and they needed more space.

After finding a plot of land in Saxilby in 1994, both Martin and Mel started the long and exciting task of turning the derelict house into their home. They designed and built their workshops and design offices reflecting a Malthouse that once stood on the site.

This is now the headquarters, where Martin and the design team turn bespoke ideas from paper to reality. As a result Chiselwood designs are recognised worldwide. They have been rewarded with many awards throughout its 30 years in business.

Award-Winning Design

Over the past 30 years Chiselwood has achieved many awards and distinctions. The most recent the sole European kitchen company to reach the World Finals of the Sub Zero/Wolf Kitchen Design Contest in the USA in 2017. Martin Holliday

Design Director, Martin Holliday has always been inspired with great architects such as Gaudi, Hadid and Foster. He is now recognised as one of the leading kitchen designers in the world. This has rewarded him with many design awards including European winner of KDC Award America (Sub-Zero Wolf Awards). Martin strives to be creative and innovative when working on projects. Often stretching the boundaries with his designs, using mixes of material shape and colour, Martins furniture is recognisable and distinctive.

Mel Holliday

Mel is Managing Director and co-founder of Chiselwood. She is a well-respected businesswoman in Lincolnshire and is responsible for the general management, accounts and strategy of the business. Keen to encourage and support young people in employment, she works as a Constrution Ambassador for CITB (Constrution Industry Training Board) and has been a board director for EBP (Education Business Partnership), also helping to set up a charity providing funding in education. More recently she completed a masters in NLP and is working on programs to support young people to manage their stress. Mel is appointed to the ACID Advisory Council and is working hard to encourage an ethos of IP respect, compliance and ethics.

The Team

We have team of 14 highly skilled Chiselwood designers and cabinetmakers. They design and hand-build furniture with experience and care. Made in the fully equipped workshop, the projects are delivered and fitted by their skilled team. The staff are vital to the success throughout all aspects of the business. They are trained and knowledgeable and have pride in their work.

The Design Studio

Chiselwood specializes in bespoke kitchen and furniture projects in the UK and internationally. Founder and Design Director, Martin Holliday, is personally involved in the design of each project. He works closely with his design team who are based in the Chiselwood Design Studio. This is adjacent to the workshop and showroom in Lincoln. Martin also manages the day to day implementation of the project ensuring every client receives a personalised service.

The Showrooms

A visit to our showroom and workshop near Lincoln is invaluable as its only when you touch the furniture and open the drawers that you really experience what it is that makes a Chiselwood kitchen so exceptional. Meeting Martin Holliday and spending time chatting through your project and listening to his advice after more than 30 years’ experience, is well worth the trip to Lincoln. No visit is complete without a tour of our extensive workshop, adjacent to the showroom, here you will see our highly skilled team of cabinet makers at work and see for yourself actual kitchens and furniture being made with the highest level of precision and detail.

The Workshop

The 8000 square foot workshop, adjacent to the Design Studio, is where the team of cabinet- makers create each bespoke piece of furniture. Here the word “bespoke” really means what it says, and every item is made and designed on-site to each client’s specific requirements.

Not Just Kitchens

In addition to award-winning kitchens, Chiselwood also designs, manufactures and installs cabinetry throughout the home. This includes walk in pantries, utility rooms, boot rooms, dining room cabinetry, dressing rooms, bedrooms and architectural elements such as wall panelling and radiator covers.
