American based Sub-Zero and Wolf hold a biennial kitchen design award with entries submitted from around the world.
Martin won the European Traditional category in 2017 and was subsequently asked to judge the 2019-2021 competition. Extended due to covid, the judging process began in summer 2021. Just under 2000 entries were submitted.
Attending the Sub-Zero Wolf headquarters in Maddison, Wisconsin in February this year, the seven judges from around the globe were able narrow the entries and nominate 29 finalists.
On Monday 10 October 2022, in the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, 13 winners were announced at a glittering evening with the judges handing over the awards for the seven categories including Traditional, Contemporary and Transitional Kitchen award.
“It was a very inspirational process to be judging the awards”, Martin explained. “The contestants are truly talented and narrowing the finalists from just under 2000 entries proved very challenging. Fortunately, as all the judges are designers in the industry, we have many years of experience and diversity between us. Spending time together in Madison and breaking down each entry, we were able to find the best 13 kitchens overall”.
Martin added, “I am looking forward to starting the whole process again in the summer of 2023. It has given me an opportunity to see the varied designs and their creators around the world, something I would not have been able to enjoy if I had not been invited to be a judge.”
